Revenge – a review

Dear readers,
you know we love us a good soap here at Couchslobs. I mean come on – Santa Barbara, Dynasty? It was all about the shoulder pads, big hair and cat fights. And if you don’t like a good cat fight, well what is wrong with you?
Anyhow over the last few weeks I have been watching Revenge. They say it has been loosely based on Alexandre Dumas Count of Monte Cristo. Which you know – is the network trying to be all high brow or some shit? Because Revenge is like Santa Barbara and Dynasty mated and produced an offspring. With better fashion sense.
Revenge follows the story of Emily Thorne (played by Emily VanKamp) whose real name is Amanda Thorne. Her dad got set up by his business partner on some sort of money-laundering-for-terrorists charge because his business partner needed the fall guy. Also Amanda’s dad was sleeping with his wife. So you know there was that as well. Now years later Amanda/Emily returns to the Hamptons determined to have her revenge. She looked at the ocean all pensive and shit and said – vengeance will be mine. Or something of that ilk.
Oh I know it sounds terribly cheesy. And to extent it is… what with the voice overs at the beginning and at the end when the heroine tells you why she is doing what she is doing and gets all philosophical and stuff. But will you believe me when I say it’s good cheese? It’s pretty looking cheese, with some intrigue and cat fights thrown in for a good measure. The only thing is – with the rate Amanda/Emily is going I’m afraid there won’t be anyone left to ruin/destroy/drive to despair so that they top themselves.
So have you seen Revenge? What did you think?
