Person of Interest – a review

    Dear readers,

since I was away last week I have a backlog. A huge backlog. I still haven’t seen the Good Wife that is how big my backlog is (I had to watch Supernatural I missed of course, but not much else).

On to the pilots. I will admit, I was excited about Person of Interest. I mean Jonathan Nolan AND J. J. Abrams. And even though I knew (intellectually anyway) that is not going to be anything like Lost I will admit I expected more. It wasn’t so bad but it lacked a bit of oomph. I guess I expected something a bit more creative rather than predictable. Given I haven’t had the chance to see the second episode but first impressions do count. Sorry but I find it a bit hard to suspend my disbelief that it is normal to pull out a shotgun whilst driving around in a cab in NYC (given it’s been a while since I’ve been to NYC but I don’t think things changed THAT much). Or that a kid wouldn’t be freaked out by seeing someone holding a gun to someone else’s head. Am I nitpicking? Probably. But still that stuff was just… well… odd. And silly.

Then there is Benjamin Linus. Ok whatever Michael Emerson. I do like his character and I am eager to learn about Mr. Finch’s back story. Obviously I am biased. But I do feel the man is a good actor.

Which brings me to Jim Caviezel. Who must have attended Justin Timberlake’s School of Bad Acting. As long as he just sits there and looks brooding or menacing (or the combination of the two) and blasts people to oblivion, he is fine. The minute he starts talking… well, it’s all down hill from there. And wooden doesn’t even begin to describe it.

I’ll watch a few episodes of Person of Interest (the rate I’m going this will happen some time during Christmas) just to see where they go with it. I kinda want to see how the story develops (it’s Jonathan Nolan after all). Then again and as Nina Garcia would say I question my own taste levels since I had been known to watch Horatio Caine from time to time. And find it giggle inducing.
