Late to the Game of Thrones

    Dear readers,

one book genre that I could never get into is fantasy. Of course I’ve read Tolkien when I was in primary school but then again who didn’t? Given there can be plenty of blood and gore in fantasy novels but the minute the author starts harping on about son of…, daughter of…, king of… my eyes glaze over, I lose interest and feel the need to take a cat nap.

But since I was on holiday and I do go through books rather quickly I took Game of Thrones with me on the off-chance I won’t have anything to read. 3 books later and I didn’t. And no I didn’t see a single episode of Game of Thrones. I know, I know, shame on me, bad blogger. But as I said fantasy makes me glaze over.

And I won’t lie to you, first 50 pages? It was a slog. It was like The Gunslinger. Only worse. But I did manage and I was surprised to find I started to enjoy it. So much so that the book was done and dusted some 48 hours later and I cursed myself for not bringing the second instalment with me.

I still don’t feel compelled to watch the series (for some odd reason) but there have been some rumblings the series might be filmed in either Dubrovnik or Split. Allegedly (and this is through a friend of a friend who knows a friend) so take it with a pinch of salt – the locals who sometimes get some work as extras have been contacted. I would totes apply to be a wench of some sort but since I suffer from serious case of camera-o-phobia and I break into cold sweat to have my passport photo taken I don’t think I would be able to pass even through to screening stage. I’ve tried to find any news source that would confirm this story but have failed miserably. For what it’s worth I think both Dubrovnik and Split would be a perfect backdrop.

As far as I’m concerned I’d like to be at least 3 books in before I give it a watch.
