Of being a stubborn movie snob

  • Dear readers,

I have admitted a while back to being a documentary tart. It means I will watch any documentary regardless of the subject. Even if it is bad.
When it comes to books I’m the same way – I can read almost anything. Even if the book is really (REALLY!) bad I will not be deterred until I finish. Sure, I’ll put it down and say to myself (and anyone who will listen) now this was rubbish but I will read it from cover to cover.

When it comes to movies however… I’m the most horrible snob. And it’s not even that it has to be a high brow movie pondering the meaning of life that leaves you feeling wretched for a few days after (I saw Captain America last week so high horse? Yeah I don’t have any). Or some type of indie movie that no one has seen and I can act all superior about other people’s pedestrian taste. Oh no!

I love me some Marvel superhero action, a good horror or a comedy. It’s just… there has to be something I, in my warped mind, will deem worthy of my time investment. Be it an actor (Alan Rickman in this for example), be it the director and writer (Christopher and Jonathan Nolan in this), be it the director and actor (Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr in this).

But some things will put me off and there is no way I will get the urge to see it (I still haven’t seen Titanic).

Which brings me to the trailer below. It’s for a movie called In Time directed by Andrew Niccol. It’s a Sci-Fi thriller and normally I’d be all over this shit. I mean it has Matt Bomer, Johnny Galecki AND Cillian Murphy. As I said normally I’d be ALL over this.

But the main character is played by Justin Timberlake. And I just cannot for the life of me force myself to see it. The premise looks promising and the supporting cast is good, even the director has some good writer/director credits to his name. And then I see Justin Timberlake and think – no way! No way I’m seeing that. The reason is simple – he is not very good.

What I’m trying to get to (in my round about way) – dear readers do you have snobbish tendencies like I do? Or rather is there something/someone that instantly puts you off a movie?
