Nigel Slater’s Simple Suppers

  • Dear faithful readers,

I think I have new favorite cook. Cook, that’s right, rather then chef.

Nigel Slater is a food journalist and writer. Who also happens to love to cook. He wrote for Observer and Marie Claire but also published an autobiography called Toast: The Story of a Boy’s Hunger where he describes his childhood through food and how he learned how to cook in a bid to win his father’s affection.

Nigel Slater is a cook not a chef. Which might explain why he is not shouting. Or swearing (not that I would mind that). Or jumping up and down. Or gesticulating wildly. He is a man who loves to cook simple, delicious, comforting food with the ingredients you just might have on hand (lime leaves Jamie, really?! Really?!! Don’t get me wrong I’m fond of Mr. Oliver and his recipes, but really?)

His Simple Supper program is just that – he prepares simple, delicious meals for every night of the week. The recipes are not complicated and they do not require million of pots and pans or exotic ingredients that cost an arm and a leg.
So it is definitely worth checking out if you fancy trying out something well… not fussy.

You can check out the clip below but also download a booklet with his recipes if you are stuck in a bit of a cooking rut and would like to give it a go. There are more recipes at Guardian website. Do let me know how it turned out.
