The final curtain for BSG

    My dear faithful readers,

We have seen the last of Battlestar Galatica. And I have to say I was not disappointed with the ending.

It took a while for my first impressions to settle and I do plan another viewing if for nothing else then to see if I have missed anything and to see if my perspective will change once some time has passed.

Given a number of questions has not really been answered. And while I was preoccupied will they be able to answer all the questions in the series finale I got my answer – yes they did have the time, but I guess the writers decided to leave it ambiguous on purpose. You know just to torture us and keep us guessing some more :) But I cannot really hold that against them, after all they have kept us entertained for 4 years.

What struck me the most was how visually stunning this episode was. Have you noticed?
The scenes of BSG’s attack on the Colony, the space combat, the guerrilla attack in the Colony itself, metal on metal, blood on blood and that pulsating red line, the scene where the Final Five light up poor Anders and then the vast, green, lush Earth that finally awaited them after the battle – to me this episode was a total visual overload.

I think for the most part with did get closure and that is what it is all about. For a series that started off with an almighty bang (even 4 years on, I still cannot get over how fantastically awesome first season was) I think the series finale had a bit of everything – some funny bits, some dark and miserable bits, some sad bits, plenty of action and renewed sense of hope, which considering how miserable the humanity was at the very beginning I thought was only appropriate (well what can I say I’m a sucker for happy endings in some way shape or form).

It has been a fun ride. No, scratch that it has been an exhilarating ride. And while I am a bit sad it is over and BSG crew will be sorely missed (especially Baltar and his blanket), I am glad they have made their exit on a high note.

So tell me dear readers – what did you think of BSG finale? Did you find it satisfying enough or were you left hungry for more?
Are all of your questions answered or are you still in the dark about something? Do leave your comments in the section below.

On the whole, I’m fine with the ending. The first half was great. I just wish it had ended stronger. The flash forward was a bit empty for me.

For example, the series finale for The Wire was ok. I can’t even remember most of it, but the last ten minutes or so are still with me. It left a haunting coda for the show. I don’t think BSG’s final ten minutes will do the same thing.

If you are interested, I put up a BSG meme for carnival regulars who may want to play a bit longer.

  • Hi Ms Smarty Pants,

sorry it took me so long to answer to your comment (I’m like without my head since the laptop is down :)

Oh I will definitely do the BSG meme… :)

I liked the final episode of BSG. I agree with you the ending might have been stronger, it was sort of diluted towards the end (thats just my opinion) but I did like Baltar and Caprica Six :) They were one of the most memorable things (to me) from the pilot I thought it was sort of fitting it ended with them as well.
