BSG So Say We All Blog Carnival – When the unthinkable happens
One thing I have always admired about BSG writers was their seemingly effortless knack to convey the sheer hopelessness, desperation and misery the human race (or what was left of it) was experiencing after the nuclear attacks on Caprica.
And things are pretty desperate – if someone told me during season 1 that the whole crew of BSG will have to abandon the ship and move into base ship because the BSG would fall apart – well I’d call that person a silly sausage. Can you imagine, the unthinkable has happened. And we have come a long way.
Having said that I do feel that Adama’s crying jag was completely unnecessary, I think us the viewers are aware how desperate things are. The only person who might suffer worse crying jag would be Saul Tigh and he is a bloody Cylon!
What I also found fascinating that it was Roslin, Roslin of all people, who gave her blessing for the impending move. The unthinkable has happened.
Another person I found fascinating in this particular episode was Starbuck. Hard, tough, skin-like-a-rhyno’s-arse Starbuck. Who simply could not take not knowing anymore what has happened to her on Earth. And she decided to confide in Baltar of all people.
Given he could give her some answers from the purely scientific stand point (yes it is her dead flesh on those dog tags) but we all know what Baltar is like. Manipulative, conniving and bless him prepared to use any information if it means he will benefit from it.
Hey I am fond of Baltar as the next person, but you know that is what he is like. And we all know that. And Starbuck knew that. So I felt to be honest her slap was just an exercise in keeping up appearances.
Because the mighty Starbuck started to buckle under pressure and could not carry the burden of not knowing anymore. Is she dead, is she alive, is she a Cylon, what is she? It must have been a relief to finally have it out in the open.
And the unthinkable happened.
And now we have only 2 episodes left. Bloody hell!
So tell me dear readers, what did you think of last week’s episode? Was it too slow for your liking? Did you get some answers? What are your latest ruminations?
