Games based on TV shows - match made in heaven? Or hell?

It has be said I am not much of a gamer. But I do like to dabble from time to time. Honestly who doesn’t?
I think it all started when I was little with Krusty’s Fun House we used to play on our old and battered Nintendo. Does anyone remember that game or am I that old? (It also has to be said it was good fun, but the ending was highly disappointing).
So I wanted to explore games based on TV shows and see if there are any contenders that could take over Krusty’s crown. But the outlook is not too good. It seems even though TV shows (some TV shows at least) could be possible goldmines for the gaming industry more often then not execution leaves a lot to be desired.
Spooks: Spy Academy – my favorite out of all it has to be said. Based on BBC show about MI5 agents, Spooks still qualifies as some seriously good telly watching (even though I still have not forgiven him for blowing Rupert Penry Jones to bits). You basically go through a series of tests that will measure your aptitude in anything from observation to lock picking (that one was a bitch to finish) that should in theory prepare you for your MI5 duties. It is a time sucker so be prepared.
CSI: Hard Evidence – you get to play a rookie on CSI with someone following you around while you do all the grunt work. And from what I have gathered from the reviews it seems this one is relatively easy. Which just might be my cup of tea. Hey I’m a blond, do not expect miracles. (and CSI: NY video game will be released on November 18th).
(Available for PC, Xbox and Wii)
X Files: Resist or Serve – remember back in the day when we were all gaga over X files? Bloody hell that was one of the rare few shows I had to pause when I went to grab a snack or go to the loo (I’m trying to forget how much I have hated The X files: I Want to Believe tsssss). However for all of us that once loved X Files this might serve as a nice trip back the memory lane. A second game in the series, this was dubbed as a missing 3 episodes from season 7, the game did get excellent reviews. The cast did the voice overs and you can play as either Mulder or Scully.
(Available for PS2)
Lost – I would dare to say any of us die hard Lost fans would be tickled pink to get to play around on the Lost island. When I say play around I mean blow things up and stuff. You get to play a character called Elliott Maslow who is a photo journalist and suffers from amnesia. He also has to avoid the Smokey monster at all costs. The game got mixed reviews and you can read Jorge Garcia take on his character Hurley.
(Available for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3)
The Shield – based on the hit TV show you get to play the role of dirty cop Vic Mackey. Although it was highly anticipated it failed to delight gamers and fans alike, from what I have read it sounds crapacious. I do have to say one of the things you get to do is to show a suspect’s head down the toilet – surely that was at least interesting.
So you might be better off just getting the DVDs for the series rather then waste your time.
(Available for PC and PS 2)
24: The Game - have you ever fancied yourself as Jack Bauer? To blow things up and save the world with one hand while your other hand permanently clutches a mobile phone to your ear? 24: the Game is a few years old now, but you can read the review here and decide if you fancy it yourself. Unfortunately the game does not actually last 24 hours, but still you fiddle around with Jack Bauer hello!
(Available for Play Stations 2)
Hell’s Kitchen – were you ever tempted to learn how to make that beef wellington? Or pidgeon salad? You can try your luck out in the Hell’s Kitchen game. You get a 3D model of Gordon Ramsay that shouts at you and with every customer you lose his mood deteriorates. If you piss him off sufficiently (which without a doubt I would do) he will shut down the kitchen and call you a fucking donkey. Lovely.
(Available for PC, Mac, Nintendo DS and Wii)
Alias – a friend of mine is/was a die-hard Alias fan. So this might be right up her alley to guide Sydney Bristow around and have her go all stealth on your arse (which I’m horrible at, I always plunge straight in chopping up/blowing to pieces any given enemy). Apparently the game did not get very good reviews and it is intended for people who have been following Alias from the beginning. Oh and Sydney doesn’t really resemble Jennifer Garner – which makes me wonder was the point then?
(Available for PC, PS2 and Xbox).
The Sopranos: Road to Respect – I’m sorry but with a name like that who in the world thought it would make for a good game? And I wasn’t far from the mark the game got atrocious reviews.
Friends: The one with all the trivia – hm an expression milking it for all it is worth comes to mind.
Slightly disturbing
Sex and the City happy ending – you get to help Carrie pick out her wedding dress. Which would just barely (I said barely) hold water were it not for the horrible graphics and other whatnots.
So tell me dear readers are there any games based on TV shows that you have actually liked? Do leave me your tips in the comment section below.
