Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday – Valkyrie
-
Dear faithful readers, happy Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday!
Today we are not reviewing anything, in fact we are having a bit of a movie preview and I’m really keen to hear all of your opinions on this one.
You may or may not know that our lovely Mr. Fry has stared in Valkyrie. You know that highly controversial movie with Tom Cruise. The movie is set to be released on December 26th.
The movie is based on true story about a group of high ranking German officers who have come up with a plot to assassinate Hitler. The term Valkyrie was the code name for contingency plan devised by the Nazi army in case of the internal uprising. However the conspirators came up with a brain wave to use the existing plan, quietly take over Berlin and put the new government into place. That would also involve the plot to kill Hitler.
And well we all know how that ended up.Now it has to be said that the movie trailer looks really promising. The cast is stellar and it was directed by Bryan Singer – the same man responsible for one of my favorite movies of all time The Usual Suspects.
Lets ignore the fact the movie seems to be jinxed with all those people hurt on the set and not to mention the release date being pushed back time and time again.
I do have one big problem with this one and that is their choice for the lead. Ever since Tom Cruise unleashed his inner enthusiast and started jumping on couches and resumed the role of poster boy for Scientology every one of his movies bombed. Well it has to be said it became quite annoying.
The one and single movie where I did enjoy his performance was Born of 4th of July. Magnolia was good, but then again it had stellar cast, wonderful script and director. Other Tom Cruise movies were in my opinion duds.
But after seeing the Valkyrie trailer I do have to say I’m intrigued. I think it will be one of those movies you either hate or love.
So what do you think? Will you be seeing Valkyrie? Or do you, like myself, have second thoughts?
Is the lure of Bryan Singer, Stephen Fry, Kenneth Branagh and the rest strong enough to make you want to see it?Please do share your opinions with us.
