Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday – Thunderpants

  • The London Party

Dear faithful readers, happy Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend (well better then mine anyway I have a dreadful cold and it has gone beyond ordinary sniffles – the snotty tissues I have been discarding would leave House MD perplexed. Too much information? Yes probably. But I love to share).

Anyhow today we will take a look at the movie called Thunderpants. Now before I go on with my review I will just say that we have been doing Stephen Fry Appreciation Mondays for months and I am either a) really REALLY fond of Mr. Fry and his work or b) the cold (or whatever it is) has finally addled my blond little brain (or what is left of it).

Why? I watched Thunderpants. And it was the best day of my life… ever.

Because I actually liked Thunderpants. But why is that strange?

Because Thunderpants is a children movie about a boy who has a problem and a dream. The problem is he cannot stop farting (yes you have read that right). Patrick Smash cannot stop farting.
And he wants to be a spaceman.

Well as one would imagine, NASA would not be too keen on having recruits that fart constantly so our little Patrick Smash (played by Bruce Cook) is faced with quite a predicament. But with a little help of his friend Alan (played by Rupert Grint aka Ronald Weasley of the Harry Potter movies) he works on his dream and finally ends up in space.

Oh, I’ve spoiled it for you didn’t I? Well it’s a children movie of course it is going to have a happy ending.

So yes it is a movie about a little boy who cannot stop farting. Why should you watch it?

Its whimsical, its silly, everything is green (really everything, first I thought there was something wrong with my eyes), it has a lot of farts, a little boy with a pudding basin haircut and it has Stephen Fry.

Well Stephen Fry only shows up for like a minute. And he plays a rather nasty man. Well a lawyer. Who has what looks like a dead pigeon on top of his head. And goes by the name of Anthony Silk (honestly!).

So join me next week when I will be reviewing St. Trinians. Well if I’m feeling brave. And I know it has Colin Firth in it (one small blessing) but it also has that horrible Russell Brand character. And because of that fact alone, if I ever (ever?) in this lifetime meet our illustrious Mr. Fry he owes me a pint of Blackadder. Tssssss

So go on and watch Thunderpants. It will be the best day of your life… ever. (See you would know what I’m talking about if you saw the movie :)
