Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday – Happy Birthday GNU
-
Our dear faithful readers, today, unexpectedly, you are in for a double episode of Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday. The reason for this rare occasion (I wanted to say treat, but as of yet I don’t know exactly where I’m going with this so bare with me) is the video our protagonist shot to celebrate 25 years of GNU. For those of you who don’t know what GNU is, please watch the aforeposted video. Go watch now.
And what do you think? A great cause right? I think so. There’s just one thing. Only one small thing; and that is that beautiful MacBook Air sitting on that nice table besides Mr. Fry. Even though, Mr. Fry, you are The Original Apple Fanboy, why did you put that laptop beside yourself when talking about openness and free software? Is there a more closed up and more restrictive software company than Apple? Even the infamous Microsoft Vista PC would have been better. Not much, but at least Vista can be installed on every computer and not only and exclusively on overpriced hardware like OS X. Was the Asus Eee Pc too much to ask for? I know it is not the most beautiful piece of hardware, but it is machine that brought Linux (one of the themes of your video) to the masses.
Even though in my mind this was a great slipup, I don’t blame you. Air truly is a great looking computer. It really is pretty! In fact it is so pretty I want one.
