Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday – Happy birthday Mr. Fry!
-
Dear faithful readers, happy Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday!
Yes I am back from hiatus. I will not bore you with the details of my holiday but I will get straight to the point.
Some of you might know while some might not know, but yesterday it was our lovely Mr. Fry’s 51st birthday.
I wish you a very happy (albeit belated) 51st birthday Mr. Fry and at least as many years of happiness, health and wonderful creative productivity.
And no more broken extremities, for your sake and for the sake of all your fans, you gave us quite a fright
So I thought about what would qualify as a good enough present – I do a mean Chocolate and Earl Grey Terrine however by the time it would reach our lovely Mr. Fry it would be nothing but a pile of chocolaty slush. Delicious slush but slush nonetheless.
I ruminated for a while and jolly golly I got it!Now we all know our lovely Mr. Fry has a bit of tendency to be a bit hard on himself (well anyone who has read Moab is aware of that fact). But I believe birthdays are a time to reflect, so I feel if Mr. Fry sees why all of us are so fond of him he might pass the squirm-from-embarrassment stage and realize he has made a world a better place in his 51 years he has been on the planet.
And I would love for you dear readers to pitch in and give your reasons why you are fond of Mr. Fry, small and silly, serious and life-changing, it does not matter leave it all in the comments below. I know our lovely Mr. Fry has a lot of admirers but I would love to hear your reasons for being fond of the man.
- QI is one thing in this world that cheers me up no matter what
- Moab is My Washpot is one of my favorite reads that I go back to time and time again (and thank you for explaining the British public school system, it has baffled me for ages. Although I think cricket rules will elude me forever)
- Mr. Brumie sketch from A Bit of Fry and Laurie made me squirt coffee through my nose because I was laughing so hard
- Blackadder was and still is the TV show of my youth and one of the most brilliant pieces of comedy I have ever seen ( I still have it on VCR tapes
- Harry Potter audio books brought back memories of being 2 and sitting on the potty listening to the Puss in Boots on my walkman
- Podgrams are such a pleasure – like having a most wonderful coffee and a chat with your oldest and smartest friend
- I cannot even pretend to comprehend what has the Bi-polar documentary done for the people who suffer from this illness, but to this day it remains one of the most touching and courageous pieces of television I have seen
- Kingdom made me visit Norfolk where I had one of the most relaxing, stress free holidays in the last 10 years (not to mention it is the county with the highest rate of lovely people I have ever encountered)
- Thank you for making me realize what I knew all along, kindness and good manners are not something that should be frowned upon regardless of what I might see in the media
- A man who has DS Lite in pink and is not afraid to say so publicly, well he cannot be bad can he?
So dear readers, lets hear it think of it as a communal present, why are you fond of Mr. Fry?
