I’m crazy and I won’t take it anymore - my favorite nutcases
I saw Dark Knight on Monday. First I thought Nah it is too much hype, besides it is a Batman movie for crying out loud! But I stand corrected – it is the best movie I have seen this year and in all probability the best movie I saw in the last few years.
And Heath Ledger’s performance goes beyond exceptional into the realm of well and truly superb.
After seeing Dark Knight and under the impression of such magnificent performance it got me thinking – what were the best nutcases in movies?
Heath Ledger in Dark Knight – he took over the first spot from Anthony Hopkins because he really captured the essence of crazy. Did you see that mad glint in his eye?
Made me shudder to the bone. He turned Joker from a comical figure as portrayed by Jack Nicholson into something far more sinister and creepy.
Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs – I don’t think I will ever forget that hissing thing he did.
Jack Nicholson in Shining – it has to be said that for quite a while Jack Nicholson embodied crazy when it came to the movies. Never before did “Here comes Johnny” made you want to run for the doors.
Gary Oldman in almost anything – well for quite a while it seems all the characters Gary Oldman played were on the psychopathic side. While his pick of characters over the years has been a bit more subdued you have to hand it to him – he is one fine actor.
Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction – a performance that coined the phrase bunny boiler, enough said.
Robert Carlyle in Trainspotting – as Begbie in Trainspotting he embodied the worst combination – violent temper and short fuse.
Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest – bloody hell I never looked at a hanger at the same way.
Jennifer Jason Leigh in Single White Female – a roommate from hell. And when stealing your boyfriend is the least worst thing she did, that should tell you something.
Michael Douglas in Falling Down – watch what happens when ordinary man just snaps. And although I do not frequent McDonalds that often, every time I am there I remember this movie.

this is an excellent list. Gary Oldman is one of the best movie psychopaths ever.
Christopher Walken in True Romance?
Michael Madsen in Reservoir Dogs?
But it’s hard to improve upon this list…
