I was genuinely thrilled to read the news BBC has finally ventured out and started offering their programs on iTunes in the US. Finally, finally a step in the right direction.
The 3 shows that are available are Torchwood, Little Britain and Robin Hood.
Better yet according to the news from Macworld BBC sales are going strong. Torchwood and Little Britain are both in the top 10 TV seasons according to the sales.
Which suggests 2 things:
A) rather then to buy individual episodes people are buying the whole season’s worth
B) if that is not a sign Americans like British TV I don’t know what is.
While I truly believe this is a step in the right direction (especially at the time when the future of public service broadcasting is under such scrutiny, this is as good as time as any to get with the program) and I know it is only common sense to test the waters, I could not believe BBC only offered 3 relatively new shows on iTunes. Come on BBC you are sitting on a fraking gold mine (trying to curb the swearing so pardon the BSG reference) or do I really have to spell it out for you?
The one and only original Office?
The golden oldies like Fawlty Towers, Monty Phyton’s Flying Circus, Only Fools and Horses and did I mention Blackadder? You know Hugh Laurie is playing that doctor chap and all.
Ok soaps might not do as well, but what about nature programs and the documentaries?
I’m not saying release it all at once, but to test the waters and see how it goes would be prudent. Viewers are a fickle bunch, we have ADD and we want it all at once (definitely not one episode at a time).

And dare I say more money in BBC pocket might mean more quality programs as Attenborough suggested? I for one can never have enough of Attenborough.
-off of their own hit show House M.D. Apparently the show will not be following another doctor but a detective who will be joining the original show this season for a multi-episode arc.
