BSG – who made Baltar the resident guru?

After seeing last week’s episode of BSG I do have to agree with our professor Paul over at Infinite Regress TV, all but first season of BSG (which was wham bam thank you ma’am from start to finish) had a habit of great starts, mind-blowing finales and saggy middle bits. Season 4 is no exception.
Hey I still religiously watch every episode (much the same way I watched Lost last season, you just don’t give up that easily on your favorite shows). However it did leave me what – WTF, was that all?
Ok lets put aside the fact Starbucks is itsy bitsy loosing the plot. We all know she was always a little bit crazy and we all know she will get there in the end, but seriously no wonder she has mutiny on her hands.
There are 2 things I have scribbled in my notebook while watching.
First none of the 4 Cylons have brought up the fact of the other Hybrid baby. It seems (to me at least) a major development especially after Leoben’s talk about Hybrid reconciling the Cylons and humans and showing the way. Or something to that effect. Pardon me for paraphrasing, but he says a lot. Like a New age hippy dippy. And it does make sense at the time. But after a while you realize it is the same thing over and over again. Maybe that’s just me being blond. And there is a Latin saying Repetitio est mater studiorum (Repetition is the mother of learning).
And talking of New Age hippy dippy – who in the world made Gaius fraking Baltar the resident guru?
Given the man was a science guru. Once. But we have not seen that side of Baltar in a long, long while. I liked his weasely ways, it was what made him interesting. Now all this talk about redemption… for crying out loud. And while before he would do it when his life was threatened now he does it ALL the time. Talking about humanity being wiped out while it was the same man who played a large part in what happened. No wonder Chief tried to throttle him. Me thinks Gaius does have a Cylon complex, I think he still hopes he is one of them. But for now it will do to have hippy dippy chicks follow him around. And who would have thought that was possible – in space?!
