Shameful TV confessions – who was your 80s crush?

shameful-tv-confessions-%e2%80%93-who-was-your-80s-crush

Confession time again. I love this, I am thinking about making it a regular feature because quite frankly you never know what you are going to find out (the few of you that are actually reading this blog). New rule to live by – embrace the embarrassment. In my defense my taste has improved (ever so slightly) since them days but I have noticed a few patterns in making this list which does explain why I find Stephen Fry fanciable.

And I just want to say the reason there are no females on the list is well I am not that way inclined however men and women who had an 80s female crush are more then welcomed to share.

So who was your 80s crush? As in who did you find fanciable enough to tune it week after week to watch?

Michael J. Fox on Family Ties – it is a bit obvious isn’t it? Ah well what can I do? It was me and millions and millions of teenage girls who found Alex P. Keaton adorable. Michael J. Fox managed to pull this role off by being annoying and decidedly lovable at the same time.

Gadget Of the Week - XOBNI

gadget-of-the-week-xobni

Even though today’s gadget is not gadget per say but an Outlook plug-in, this is by far best geek product of this week. XOBNI (pronounced “ZOB-nee”) is a new program developed by Adam Smith and Matt Brezina which tries to de-clutter your Outlook inbox.

If you are like me, and I know you are, your life is ruled by email and if your email is ruled by Outlook, you are knee high in shyt. The biggest problem I have with it, like most people I know, is that if you receive more than 20 emails per day in a week you cannot find a damn thing. This has been remedied somewhat by invention of Google Desktop and new search feature in Outlook 2007, but problems still exit. Google indexes everything and you rely on knowing the correct keywords for finding something, whilst search feature embedded in Outlook 2007 is so damn slow it’s like puling teeth.

Golden oldie - Seven

golden-oldie-seven

Yesterday I switched on the telly and there it was - Seven. As a few of you who read us regularly probably know I am complete and utter movie snob. It does not mean I will not stoop down and watch any old nonsense (although I do draw the line at spoof movies, I’m sorry I do have to keep some standards).
It just means there are not too many movies I can watch time and time again. Seven is one of them. And no it is not because of Brad Pitt (although that helps). It is because it is bloody brilliant.

I remember when I saw Seven for the first time. My movie palate was nowhere near as developed and I did not have a clue who David Fincher was. We went to the cinema and after grueling 2 hours I remember coming out with a distinctive nauseating feeling in my stomach. It is really difficult to stomach the first time around isn’t it? Not to mention a good few scenes are absolutely shocking (I am yet to find a person who did not flinch or jump during that scene when they find Victor’s presumably dead body).

But once you get over the shock and the nausea you do realize a few things a) very little violence can be seen apart from the crime scenes, which lets be frank aren’t any more gruesome that the ones you can see on CSI and b) even though it is easy to dismiss that Kevin Spacey speech as madman talk there is a certain eerie logic to his justifications.

In my opinion Seven is a movie you have to see at least twice because the visual impact is so strong the first time. Simply some bits of the story line can be missed. The story is so perfectly written and Freeman, Pitt and Spacey did such a wonderful job you would it injustice to dismiss it as a simple gore fest. Because gruesome and miserable as it appears, it is anything but.

“So Say We All” BSG Blog Carnival at Remote Access

Couchslobs is taking part in our first ever blog carnival.

Our blog buddy Amy over at Remote Access is the master mind behind this one so big cheers to her (any of you Jericho fans will know who I am talking about).
And this is no ordinary blog carnival oh no! It is “So Say We All” Battlestar Galatica blog carnival.

How cool is that? I’m kind of chuffed we are breaking our blog carnival cherry with BSG (note to self – must stop with the potty mouth, but in my defense it is proving difficult and it is Gordon Ramsay’s fault).
All joking aside isn’t it the coolest show ever? And just when I think about how it was all down to my brother who literally pushed the DVD of the first season in my hands. Cue 24 hours and some red, dry eyes later - I have not looked back since.

So don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for all that BSG goodness.

And Amy all I will say - just embrace your inner geek :)

Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday - Stephen Fry Is A Middle-Aged Black Woman

stephen-fry-appreciation-monday-stephen-fry-is-a-middle-aged-black-woman

Following Mr. Fry for some time now I became familiar with his acting opus, but never before now have I seen him impersonate a middle-aged black woman until now. Yes, we’ve seen him portray a shrink, a writer, a general; but I don’t believe many of us have seen him act-out a black woman. In his first female role he’s portraying non other than Oprah Winfrey. You say: NO WAY! I say: WAY! Look, enjoy, be dazzled!

Image QI (Quite Interesting)

Dear faithful readers, happy Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday!

Since I have been feeling a bit miserable this morning I have decided we all need a bit of laughter.

So I have found some of my favorite moments from QI that never ever fail to tickle me pink (and some of them make me snort water through my nose not very alluring or pretty but there you have it).
I swear QI should be prescribed instead of anti-depressants - doom, gloom and misery be gone.

Not to mention we are actually learning something as well.
Do you have any favorite QI moments?

So happy Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday and enjoy!

As much as I liked our blog, I seriously thought we needed an update. I felt it was a bit clattered. Now with a Wordpress update (the thing most of you will not notice, but believe you me, we will), a new template came. For the template I would like to thank Sadish Balasubramanian who designed it.

Hope you will enjoy the new design and keep following us. To all our faithful readers I would like to thank for loyalty and hope you keep enjoying our ramblings as much as we enjoy writing them .

See you on the couch!

When movie stars get their kit off

when-movie-stars-get-their-kit-off

So everyone saw Demi Moore in Striptease getting her kit off. Novelty has worn off pretty much by the time movie was released. I present to you some of the more memorable scenes where the leading men and ladies got their kit off to a great effect.
Some made us shudder in revulsion, some made us gasp with shock, some tickled us pink but for sure they did not make us yawn in boredom.

New season of Hell’s Kitchen

new-season-of-hells-kitchen

Image: Guardian

The new season of Hell’s Kitchen is upon us. And since a) I do love my Gordon Ramsay and b) there is no House, Lost or any other show until end of April well a girl has to get her TV kicks where she can.

The only problem is I’m not really sold on Hell’s Kitchen. I did see season 1 of British version where you had a heap of celebs (well THEY call themselves celebs but lets call a spade a spade wannabe celebs way past their prime) breaking down in tears every 5 minutes, soufflés being burned, meat being raw and even I had nightmares about the risotto - so much so in fact I have not even made an attempt to cook one since I saw the show (I can picture Gordon Ramsay spitting it out and shouting “In the bin, in the bin you f****** donkey!”).

But enough of my kitchen nightmares where was I? Yes Hell’s Kitchen. Truth be told I think the concept is good, much better then what Jamie Oliver did all those years ago. He got a bunch of lazy farts who a) did not have a clue about cooking and b) could not be arsed to do much at all (which surely defied the whole purpose of the show). At least Ramsay’s lot know a thing or two about cooking and say what you will they are ready to sweat it out.
My problem is (if you ignore the stupid dramatic music and people talking about themselves in 3rd person) that FOX is editing Ramsay into some sort of McSatan of the cooking world. And after 3 seasons it is kind of getting stale. If they wanted to portray how tense and stressful it can get in the kitchen, me thinks the viewers got the idea already. Sure he is foul mouthed and a perfectionist, but he is not that bad by far.
And does Gordon Ramsay really want to be know for the rest of his living days as this devilish persona? Surely not. In my opinion – more Kitchen Nightmares, less Hell’s Kitchen.
