Shameful movie confessions - what are yours?

shameful-movie-confessions-what-are-yours

I got the idea for this week’s installment of Shameful movie confessions (I know it was TV last week, but lets go with the flow) from John over at TV Scoop and his post about Back to The Future.
My Michael J. Fox obsession aside, I did enjoy that movie and I can still watch it from time to time and I find it funny.
So what are those movie you could not get enough of? And we are not talking cool like Fight Club, Shawshank Redemption or lets say LA Confidential.
I came up with a good few, make sure to check the links as well I hope you will giggle as much as I did.

Dirty Dancing
Apart from Back to the Future which was one of my favorites (I did enjoy the second and third part, but I was not AS fascinated with it) there was the Dirty Dancing mania. Oh Lord remember back in the days when Patrick Swayze was the dog’s bollocks? It was a cute movie, the music was great although I have to admit I was a bit miffed when I learned that for that famous lake scene they had to paint the leaves with food coloring and the actors were freezing as it was late autumn or something to that effect. I think I can safely say for most of the females of my generation, Mr. Swayze we wish you a speedy recovery.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Who, I ask you who could have resisted Matthew Broderick in them days? Funny, carefree and who can ever forget that parade scene? To me at least it is a good reminder to take life and myself for that matter a little less seriously. And I can even excuse his vest.

Grease
Remember back in the day when John Travolta was considered a bit of a male tart? And way, waaay before the coolness that was Pulp Fiction and the fiasco that was Battlefield Earth? I did love Grease with vengeance. It did not even matter they were all too old to be playing high school kids.

Weekend at Bernie’s
I know, I know I cannot believe I actually wrote that. And while I can at least pass off Dirty Dancing and Ferris to being a teenager and not knowing any better Weekend at Bernie’s is inexcusable. But then again it has Andrew McCarthy, can that pass of as my saving grace? And I will even publicly admit to watching Mannequin. I know, I know.

King Solomon’s Mines
Oh yes, it gets even worse but I loved my Indiana Jones even then and when I saw this in the video store I thought jolly good this will be interesting. Looking back and knowing what I know now - who ever thought casting Richard Chamberlain as a wannabe Indy was a good idea? And Sharon Stone, oh Lord.

Jewel of the Nile
Which brings me to our next contender – The Jewel of the Nile. In my defense I did enjoy adventure at the time and reading about archeology and whatnot. So there you have it, before he showed us his sagging bottom on Basic Instinct Michael Douglas was (or at least tried to be) an action hero.

Superman
And last but not least Superman. How I loved Christopher Reeve as Superman. The best ever.

So lets hear it what are some of the movies of the uncool variety you couldn’t get enough of?

Dirty Dancing - without a doubt. My prayers are with Mr. Swayze. It was almost as devastating as when I learned my dad had cancer…. almost ;)

Ferris - YAY Ferris, just caught the end of this movie on TV over the weekend! It’s a classic, although the one scene that has stuck with me all these years is when they are trying to take the mileage off Cameron’s dad’s car. :)

Grease - My husband hates how much I love this movie. :)

Ummmm you are on your own with Bernie! I’d rather go back to talking about Michael J Fox - Remember Teen Wolf? :)

I can concede on the rest :) Who knew that Richard Chamberlin could go from being a priest to taking on King Solomon’s Mines? :)

Most importantly, Christopher Reeve is the only Superman. The rest are just wanna be’s :)

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is a complete classic and I don’t regard such love for it as shameful at all. Harumph!

I have a Dirty Dancing aversion, but probably because the woman across the hall from me in my freshman year dorm watched it, I believe, almost every single night for two months, often driving her roommate insane. Out of sympathy, I’ve never seen the entire movie from start to finish, and only watched most of it once.

Grease, King Solmon’s Mines, haven’t seen (though we sang “Greased Lightning” in chorus in elementary school!!!)

And, yes, Hawks, Reeve is the only Superman.

I will, however, watch Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink anytime they are on, no matter what point in the movie it’s at when I switch to the channel.

    Ditto the Airplane! movies.

Oh, and I completely agree that Michael Douglas NEVER should have showed us his actual butt in Basic Instinct.

Hawks Teen Wolf, oh Lord just had a flashback :)

Amy I cant believe you did not see Dirty Dancing from beginning to end….. aaaaaaaaah :) Solidarity is fine and dandy but its Dirty Dancing!

I knew Weekend at Bernies was embarrassing however as I said Andrew McCarthy is my excuse :)
But I’m glad we all agree on Superman :)
