Back to the Future: Sarah Connor Chronicles

When I heard about “Terminator” being turned into a TV series, I was rather skeptical. Two episodes into it and the series already shows some promise. And, while John Connor (played by Thomas Dekker) does look a bit emo, this is more than compensated by his mother Sarah (beautiful Lena Headey – Queen Gorgo, The Only Speaking Female in “300″) and John’s new pet-Terminator Cameron (played by Summer Glau - River, our favorite autistic from Josh Whedon’s much lamented “Firefly”). There’s also Dean Winters in guest-role of Sarah’s ex-boyfriend and I, for one, would just love to see Ryan O’Reily kick some robot butts.

So much about cast. But what about the story? Robot assassins from the future make for a great movie, but in the TV series format seem a bit… thin for a plot line. So, for a good measure, now there’s a whole underground resistance movement from future hiding in slums and fighting equally hidden robot movement. Throw in a FBI Agent obsessed with Sarah Connor and some post 9/11 paranoia, and this might make for some interesting complications in the life of future Resistance leader.

So far, screenwriters’ strike turned into an advantage for the show: the pilot got huge ratings simply because there’s nothing new on TV. But the true test will come after the small supply of previously made episodes runs out. Will the audience tune into new episodes of “Sarah Connor Chronicles” after strike ends some day? Not even future John Connor can answer that.
