A UN Of Insults And Profanities

As it is Monday, once again it is:

Stephen Fry Appreciation Day

I want to apologize to you all. I sat down a couple of hours ago to write this article and it simply didn’t go right. I started writing about QI, Mr. Fry’s game show. I finished writing about Moab Is My Washpot and in the middle I called all Germans a Highfalutin Jerrys; myself, by Mr. Fry’s pet word, a Cunt; USA and Paris Hilton were mentioned here and there; Starbucks and so on. All and all, a UN of insults and profanities.

So instead I decided to write this public service announcement. I know our illustrious Mr. Fry will appreciate this effort. November is a National Novel Writing Month. The idea behind this is for every single one of us to write a novel in November. It doesn’t have to be good, just sit your overgrown ass down and write 50.000 words. Don’t edit, just write. Get it down to paper, or computer file, your choice. See what it takes to write a novel. All dozen or so of you who are reading this post join me and we will do it together. Go to National Novel Writing Month website and pledge. Be my writing buddy and we’ll do it together. It’s not late to join and start typing. If nothing else you will be able to say you have a first draft of a novel. Type people, type!

Stephen Fry Appreciation Monday - Kingdom

My dearest readers and fellow Stephen Fry enthusiasts

happy Stephen Fry Appreciation Day!

Do you know what I’m holding in the palm of my sweaty little hand? No, not that, don’t be vulgar tsssssss

Moab is my Washpot has arrived some 2 weeks early. You know that delightful saying “Happy as a pig in shit”? Well I am. And pardon my French I was dubbed fisherman’s wife while in England.

Today we will be looking at Kingdom, my recent favorite. And not only for Stephen Fry. I always had a penchant for all manner of British TV, I am still of firm belief the best comedy comes from United Kingdom (if you need any guidance on what to watch first this should help). Their crime series and documentaries were and still are another guilty pleasure. Think Silent Witness, Midsommer Murders with of twist of Michael Palin. So I’m far from objective.

But in Kingdom I absolutely fell in love with the scenery. Most importantly that beach, that blasted beach with that blasted wonderful music swelling in the background that has yet to fail to cause a twitter in my chest. Tsss and I call myself a snarky cow.

The story revolves around Peter Kingdom, a small town solicitor in Market Shipborough. Of course Mr. Fry would not be Mr. Fry if he didn’t play a tortured character of some sort and of course we find out soon enough his brother has mysteriously disappeared and Kingdom like everyone else suspect suicide. I don’t want to give too much of the plot away but apart from Mr. Fry there is a wonderful cast of peculiar characters including Kingdom’s bit off the wall sister, a loyal assistant and ladish trainee (is that the proper term, I am not well versed in British law I’m afraid). Oh and I love Tony Slattery as Mr. Snell who is always in dispute with the council and apparently does not wash very often. And then there is the Mrs. Thing who always brings a smile to my face.

From what I have read in general the show got good reviews (I particularly loved the Guardian one), although The Times did give negative criticism of Stephen Fry playing Stephen Fry (since when is that a bad thing I wonder?) I for one cant wait to see the second season.
